Serena Williams has won her fifth Wimbledon title, against Agnieszka Radwanska today. This is such good news for the history of successful black women. She and her sister Venus are continuing to make history in the world of tennis. Serena had suffered a previous ankle and foot injury, but she has not allowed that to stop her and so it should be the same way for all of us black women. We must continue to keep going no matter what difficulties we may have, whether they be physical or emotional. Serena and Venus encourages us as black women to remain champions.
We do not know if you remember, but Serena and Venus lost their older sister, Yetunde Price in a shooting that occurred in Compton, California, many years ago. Their sister once managed their careers while being a part-time nurse. It is something to see them both continuing to be two of the most successful black women, years later. Again, this teaches us not to ever stop focusing on becoming successful in life.
